Key Data: Dr. Elson's career has been mainly in the field of Geotechnical engineering, concerned with a wide range of both heavy and light civil engineering including tunneling and investigations for reclamation and other programmes.

Following thirteen years experience in many parts of the world involved in major tunnels, ports, power stations, dams and ageing South Wales coal tips, he has returned to academia. In addition to his academic duties he has undertaken contract research work and consulting geotechnical activities for a wide range of local, national and international contractors and consultants.
