Mr. Pitt's career has been in meteorology and physical
oceanography mainly with the British Meteorological Office and the
Institute of Oceanographic Sciences (previously the National Institute
of Oceanography). He has been concerned with many of the major
developments in wave measurement and analysis achieved over
the past 20 years. He became an independent consultant
in May 1989 providing a range of Oceanographic and Meteorological
services in the specification and management of data collection
programmes, and the interpretation of data to ensure
sound inferences can be drawn from them, for example in connection
with engineering design criteria. He undertakes contract
research into aspects of the physical environment of offshore,
coastal and estuarine areas, in addition to literature surveys
, feasibility studies and computer data processing.
